Reminders for K-5 Car Rider Drop-off and Pick-up

          Here are the “Procedures for Dropping Off and Picking Up Car Riders” and a map of the school campus is below.  Please read the letter carefully, review the procedures and map, and pass on the instructions to anyone else who may be picking up your child. 

         At the beginning of each school year, there are always concerns about the lines being formed, people passing in line, etc. Hopefully, this will clear up any confusion!

         Every car picking up a student needs to have a cardinal car rider tag.  If you do not have tags, call the office at 270-265-5785 to request as many as you need.  Please do not just lay the tag on your dashboard.  Hold it up in the window, or tape it to your passenger side windshield so it is visible to the staff on duty.  This will help tremendously in the afternoon with calling students out to the line.  As the year goes on, we will get better at recognizing cars and knowing first names of our car rider students.  The process will get faster and smoother as we go along.

Please refer to the attached map anytime a letter, example- (A), is used in the following instructions:

 

Morning Drop-Off for K-5:  7:30 - 8:00 a.m.

 

Turn into the Trenton Road entrance to South Todd (A). Turn left to drive around to the front of the school to the drop off/pick up area (B).

“Line 1” should be used first. Cars may line up all the way back to the entrance of the K/1 hallway.

There will be staff members on duty every morning to greet students and assist with letting them into the building, so drivers should not need to get out of their cars.

Cars pull away and leave the South Todd campus through the Guthrie Road exit (C).

 

If you ever need to go inside with your child in the mornings, you should drive in through the Guthrie Road entrance, park in the front parking lot, and enter through the main front doors.

 

PLEASE DO NOT DRIVE AROUND THE BACK OF THE BUILDING AND NEVER PASS A BUS WITH ITS STOP SIGN OUT.

 

Students arriving after 8:00 are tardy. Park and bring your child to the front office to sign him/her in.

 

Afternoon Pick-Up:  3:05 - 3:20

 

Turn into the Trenton Road entrance to South Todd (A). Turn left to drive around to the front of the school to the drop off/pick up area (B).

Line 1 AND Line 2 can be filled simultaneously as Line 1 and Line 2 will be dismissed at the same time.

Fill both Line 1 and Line 2, stopping at the STOP sign. When school staff arrive, you may proceed to the pick-up area.  The lines merge near the STOP sign.  Alternate one side then the other (Line 1 then Line 2).

You will only be “creeping along” as cars move to the pick-up area. It is extremely important to move slowly and carefully with the flow of traffic. This is for the safety of our children, who are the top priority of ALL of us.

Cars pull away and leave through the Guthrie Road exit (C).

 

General Reminders:

          If your child is not a car rider every day, you must send a note to your child’s teacher any day that he/she will be a car rider. If you do not send a note, your child will be sent to ride his/her usual bus.
