North Todd Elementary School, South Todd Elementary School, and Todd County Middle School have been awarded Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Grants funded by the Kentucky Computer Science Initiative. Both elementary schools received awards of $4,750.00 and Todd County Middle School received an award of $3000. Todd County Schools will use the $12,500 PLTW Grant award to implement a computer science program.
Todd County District Superintendent Ed Oyler said receiving $12,500 in PLTW funding will bolster district STEM initiatives. “I am elated that our district received the Kentucky Computer Science grants to implement Project Lead The Way programs,” Oyler said. “This is a great opportunity for our district to expand their career pathways, especially in computer science.”
Currently Science Technical Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Labs are implemented in NTES, STES, and TCMS. The activity/project based instructional model of PLTW will benefit the students at Todd County School District, allowing the students to engage in critical and creative thinking, build teamwork skills, and how to deal with challenges and adversity. These skills are important to students as they continue their education and choose a career pathway and post-secondary aspirations. Oyler stated, “With PLTW, students get rigorous and relevant experiences through STEM activities and problem-based learning. We believe our students will become more confident and competent in these subjects. This not only makes higher education more attainable for students, but also contributes to preparing students for their career readiness and post-secondary goals.”
Todd County Schools would also like to thank Western Kentucky University and Dr. Toni Szymanski with her help and assistance in attaining the grant and for their continued support of Todd County Schools and support our initiatives.
