Specials - Music, Art, and STEAM

The Fine Arts play an important role in the educational life of students at South Todd Elementary. As part of regularly scheduled special area classes, all students in grades K-5 go to music class five days, or 235 minutes, per month. Students learn through the processes of creating, performing, and responding to the arts. The music program is heavily grounded in singing and playing classroom instruments such as keyboards, recorders, percussion, and Orff instruments which are xylophones and other barred instruments made with removable bars so children can be successful on their level at playing music. Lessons are built around the Kentucky Core Academic Standards for Music. The other three arts areas of dance, drama, and visual art are also integrated into instruction throughout the school. Students in grades 2-3 and 4-5 gain real life experience by performing in a major musical production each year. 5th grade students may audition to be a member of the South Todd Fifth Grade Chorus. This group rehearses once a week to prepare for special performances within our school and out in the community.
